How do we solve the problem?
Solar Powered Bakeries that are completely off grid, as stand alone units, deployed in townships, rural areas and suburbs with low access to energy.

At a pitch competition hosted at the Industrial Development Corporation of SA in May 2024 by ABSA Bank and the South African Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Michelle decided to pitch the bakery concept and won a cash prize. This money was utilised for IP Protection of Solachelle with Adams & Adams.

With advanced engineering and using robust high quality equipment for the bakery, we know that we keep a bakery operational from an electrical and technical perspective for 12 years. This is the typical duration of the design warranty from Original Equipment Manufacturers.

Each Bakery will provide 5 sustainable jobs and be operational 7 Days a week.

The buyer is a corporate utilising their corporate social investment spend.

The end user is a SMME who will also be up-skilled along with the employees of the bakery. Baking, Technical and Financial Skills will be taught and part of development for each business.

Our plan
We look forward to engaging with you on how to take our concept forward.
Our lifetime goal for Solachelle
is 10 000 bakeries across the African continent.
  • Market. The township economy is estimated at 5.9Billion USD in South Africa
  • Product. Robust bakery with equipment built to last for at least 12 years, that means for every 100 bakeries, 500 permanent jobs are sustained.
  • Financial. Off take agreements from corporates to purchase bakeries for their CSI and Carbon Tax Reductions will finance our manufacturing.
  • Team. The engineering and financial team from The Solar Power Cafe, a solar EPC based in Johannesburg, SA. Corporate & Private Investors.
  • Pilot. At present we have started with a solar bakery pilot at Michelle's home, while we look for a suitable location for the shipping container. We are assessing baking times for bread, power requirements, heat losses, energy efficiency and much more.
  • Baked Goods. Breads and cookies produced from our pilot bakery (home and the future container in public) will be sold at Saturday Markets in Johannesburg and Pretoria, in order to raise awareness of our bakery and also fund the expenses to run the pilot.

How can you work with us?

Our need at this time, November 2024, is for purchasing a 12 meter shipping container and refurbishing it, purchasing batteries and bakery equipment.

We have already obtained solar panels, inverters, a small oven and baking pans.

We would also like to partner with:
IT Specialists,
Automation and Control Experts
as well as Industry Leaders from the Food Sector to advise us on logistics, for baking ingredients to reach SMME's safely.
